Playing with fire

We were at this cafe one night with a little wood-fire burning and it was a bit of a wait for the food. I tried clicking the flames while waiting.

I was shooting with Sigma 150-500 zoomed to max with widest aperture (6.3) and experimented with a few different shutter speeds. I found anything faster than 1/800 was getting too dark, and with right shapes of flames (although clearly you can’t have any sort of control over it) I found 1/250 the most interesting intensity and colour of the flames.
